Backwaters- The beauty!!
On one fine morning, me and my friends who happened to be at Kerala for a best Friend's wedding, decided to kill the day in hand, visiting places. I warned my friends on few conditions- behold 6 pm is the time you are expected to be back to your home irrespective of whether you followed this rule in your college hostel!
So off we set, with all warnings from my end to the one place I always wanted to go, had dreamt of going, watching this place in movies...The Back Waters of Kerala!! A very delayed start, we ended up reaching the place- Kumarakom, at 12.30 pm. Our wonderful houseboat- Ayodhya was waiting for us, with one cook and one sailor (!) We set sail at 12.45 pm sharp, and the beauty started her journey in that wonderful, amazing, calm, beautiful back waters!! We had a halt at 1.45 pm for the stupendous lunch prepared by our lovely cook chettan on board. Imagine, its water all around you, you are in a beautiful house boat and there is a wonderful spread of food to enjoy! WOW!! That was like heaven..
God's own creation and man's creation adding beauty to the beauty! |
While I was thinking this was the best part, with the boat, the waters and houses on both sides, my sailor chettan told me, the beauty is yet to unfold!! I was all the more curious now as to what more can this place offer. Off we set sail in the next hour and we were in the midst of water all around us!! Turn NEWS, all you see is the calm, quiet, peaceful waters. I was in another world! I moved to the front deck right next to Sailor chettan..Cool breeze blowing on my face, a distant temple fest with the 'panjavadhyam' Kerala's own Temple art, in the background and the calmness! I realized what 'inner peace' is all about in that very minute. Surprisingly we were in this back drop for another 2 hours and we never realised the time we had spent!! And that was the first time ever, I stayed away from my mobile, I was not virtually connected which I am otherwise 16*7! We saw a glimpse of the famous bridge that connects Allepuzha and Kottayam. Without this bridge this spot would have been an island.
In the midst of the calm water! Absolute Bliss.. |
I am sure any person who sets sail in this place will become a writer/poet! Such is the gripping beauty of this place. We couldn't wait to watch the sunset which was a lot disappointing for me. Thank all my stars, while on the way back, we were able to witness the same from the bridge- another splendid watch, the orange sky, the deep blue waters!!
We headed to the Alleppy beach after this. While I was worried we were crossing 6 pm mark, I was surprised to see a large crowd of Men and WOMEN in the beach at 7 pm! We had fun time in the surprisingly clean beach and left from there at 8 pm! Well, yes, the day had offered us the best of best!
Now I do know why this state is still God's own Country..
Vive!!
ME MYSELF :)
