Time's Up
The past few weeks have not been like any normal day for all Indians but was a gold digger for the Indian Media. It was a time when we Indians were tormented and put to shame by few disturbing incidences, which may or may not have been to the gore of what was published or discussed in the Media. Let's keep that aside. I am with the 1.34 billion Indians who bowed down, torn apart by these incidences. But what took me to write this post, was the sheer neglect and the no foresight messages that fellow Indians shared on Social Media. I was forced to stay away from using my social networking for few weeks since these derogatory remarks about our own country pinched my pride of being an Indian.
The biggest damage that happened was when the whole issue was politicized first and then religion was added to it. If Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a one time impact on Japan, Religion and Politics are the two silent killers eating up our country day by day fueled more by the Media. What surprises me is the many young literate Indians falling for it! Where did the logical brain go? Since when did we become such blind faith citizens to spread messages that cause disharmony? Aren't we the prided clan that boasts of having a diversity in religion, faiths and still manage to live in peace and harmony?
I had a moment of outburst when I received some forwarded images of Men wearing T-shirts at Qatar airports with a warning message 'Do not send your daughters to India' being circulated with the tagline 'such a sad state'. Of course these were morphed images. There was another meme which had Queen Elizabeth cautioning her to keep an arm's distance since the PM was visiting her.
Dear Indians
While I am with you on your intention to find justice to what happened, let me remind you, you cannot do that at the cost of bringing down your own motherland. Did you know you were being mere puppets in the stage orchestrated masterfully by the media and thus we suddenly became trending for all wrong reasons worldwide. I am left to ponder if you had the same enthusiasm and patriotism which you share now when India achieved the Mars mission.
Do you think the reasons for which you are being so frenzy now, is not something anew in the Developed nations either? Please get your statistics if you haven't yet. I am also left to wonder how many of you socially active Indians have actually shown respect for women in your country- not ogling at her, not passing lewd comments about her and not stopping your son when he becomes one such, in your own day to day lives. Let the judiciary do its work to clean up the mess but in the mean time do your bit by not being such puppets. There is a lot more we can do to find the right solutions.
Stop making your social media as a platform to bring down your country. Enough is enough. Time's up to stop the viral nonsense and trying to become Sherlock Holmes in your own way!

ReplyDeleteThanks much Sampi! I attempted to put forth a neutral point beyond Religion and politics which definitely seems to be the call for the day.
