The Great Indian Election
Elections are round the corner in India and this is the season of Electoral Promises, heated debates, some prominent road shows despite the scorching heat. The temperatures in Bengaluru is giving an equal competition to the who is who in the seats. Sadly, it is not a very positive note looking at the list of candidates. Many a states have the Kith and Kin of previous MP's, MLA's contesting for elections who have possibly taken over some eligible cadets. This is the vicious circle of mockery-Mockery of the people, mockery of the jurisdiction and mockery of the country.
What is supposed to be a matter of pride, a true nation that celebrates Democracy is no longer giving me that positive vibes nor the feeling of Pride.
Take Bengaluru for example. Not a day goes by without the constant hue and cry about traffic, pollution, the pathetic infrastructure. But come to think of it, this city started seeing its boom back in the 90's and this ought to be one of the worst planned cities that has lead up to the choking now which is not afar from facing the worse water crisis as well. While we are still continuing with the cribbing and continuing to bear with the shortcomings, I stumbled upon articles on the declared assets of the contesting candidates. How a 3 crore worth net income of a candidate became a 200 crore worth net income in a matter of 5 years is a sheer mystery to me. This growth in income is supposed to be tagged to the MLA income only and no other source of income quoted either. The sheer joy that I had derived just a few days ago when I finally saw my Mutual fund turning green from the Red (worse than the red in Google maps), shattered when I read the article.
While I am still coming up with a lot of theories on how the income grew at this rate for the candidate (which also includes a Tooth fairy tale) isn't it sheer dumbness that we are all in this mad race for no valid reason at all. Take for instance another prominent candidate during his rally at Tamil Nadu. He asked the women what 'serials' they watch and tells them he is the so and so good guy in that one serial! Mind you, he knows all the characters in as many serials!! So a supposed to be parliamentary representative has thorough knowledge about serials that women in his constituency watch and this he places as his strategy to win? I will not be surprised if he ends up winning either. For some reason, the grey cells in our brain seem to have been long dead when it comes to the grand affair of Politics.
I may have said this aloud, written about this before- Politics and religion when go hand in hand is the dooms day for any nation. What happened in New Zealand for instance during a supposedly hate crime was handled a lot better and one of the main reasons- no religion mixed with politics. Atleast I did not see news hours, prime time news that were becoming Sherlock Holmes in their own ways. I still cannot get over how the Pulwama attacks were and are still being a point of Debate in India.
I am sorry dear Mother India. When Patriotism is all about posting my feelings on Twitter while sitting comfy in a AC room in office or at the comfort of home, I know my nation is slowly dying the death it is not supposed to be. At least, I hope people cast their vote and not plan that long vacation with the family with an additional paid holiday in hand.
Jai Hind!
