Are you a Feminist?

I have been asked this question by many irrespective of the gender. With my last blog post, all hell seems to have broken loose! The most interesting aspect of it was how it had been interpreted by different people. I observed, people understood and took it the way they wanted to see it. That's the thing about writing. So, what is all this buzz about the F term (Feminism I mean) that drives everyone nuts? My quick Google search for a definition on Feminism gave me this... 'The advocacy of women's rights, on the ground of equality of sexes'.

Brilliant right? I find it ridiculous that there is a need to insist on this and even come up with a term for it.It was a Utopian socialist (Francois Marie Charles Fourier) who coined the term way back in 1837; the early era where women didn't have an equal opportunity anywhere. How this society came down to this stage of women fighting for equality is an altogether different point to ponder.

For me, a women asking for her rights to put forth her points is wrong portrayal of feminism. The biggest irony that I have felt is that women put themselves down even if the man wants to treat her equally! And then you fight for it which I find pointless and yes, this doesn't make sense.

To make things clear, I am a feminist

- If you think making my opinion loud and clear (without supporting any specific gender) is a problem
-If you think I live my life the way I feel right to my conscious is a problem
-If you think riding a bike late in the night (of course with my helmet on, following the traffic rules) is a problem
-If you think wearing what I am comfortable in is a problem
-If you think I don't always exhibit the emotional deal that women are generally branded with is a problem

Its all just in the thought process. And let me remind you, I am not pointing my fingers at my opposite gender alone on the above. I have seen a lot of women making a hue and cry on Feminism for every silly reason which they can as well sort it with just some confidence on themselves, not thinking they are any less than anyone else- men or women.

Well, point made! Use the F word wisely.

VIVE,
Me Myself :)
