Humor in the right sense
Humor is one priceless emotion of human being that can change any given situation. It is hence apt to say 'There is no life without humor'. I can recount countless episodes where I have literally burst out laughing be it in the midst of a heated argument with someone or someone trying to seriously tell me something and I end up saying 'I am sorry, I can't but help laughing' (well they do join me in the laughter and wipe their tears). I love people who see humor in everything and I join them more than happily and add my own flavors where possible.
Recently, there was a news in Kochi, Kerala on one of the leading actress in the Malayalam film industry being abducted and molested. My otherwise lazy Sunday of browsing through channels, threw this shocker and I couldn't help but feel bad for the kind of things happening around. The more important part, the actress did not run away and hide. She rather decided to take it head on and filed a police complaint immediately. Now that's the kind of Women I respect and admire. The film fraternity and the public came out in support of her and the # era saw 'We are with you' trending. There were few lead actresses who came out in the open and shared their own plight being in the movie industry and how being a Women they are always treated as a 'Casting Couch'! I was glad that one women's strong stand, did bring out a small revolution and people started noticing things happening behind the scenes in the art field.
While this was going on, I started receiving some forward messages in whats app groups, Meme's on Facebook on this particular incident and Bravo India- it was targeting the actress! There was one video message titled- Actress's Video clip leaked and a video of a Car scene and a hair clip shown, There was another Audio message titled- Actress's reaction on call and a pre recorded voice note of Number not reachable being played. I do not find even a tiny bit of humor in any of these!! I find it atrocious and I couldn't contain my anger when I saw people stooping to such low levels in the name of Humor.
One simple question to all those wonderful people who forward such messages- would you have dared done it had it been someone in your own family, your close friend or you yourself?! The comments on some of the social networking sites is something I wouldn't even want to write about here. My dear fellow Indians, Spare some thought before you create those heinous memes in the name of humor! I beg you to refrain from forwarding such insane, brainless stuff. Show your support atleast to this extent.

I am sure there are many of us who are distressed by such insensitive meme forwards in the name of humour. Simply curbing the impulse to quickly forward stuff is one big step I took some years ago. Whatsapp and Facebook being the biggest avenues, I have been put off by both and have been staying away. The only reason I am on them and check Whatsapp once or twice a day (FB once a week in the past few months) is that there are some close friends and family who are connected only through that channel.
ReplyDeleteI second that RG. Infact any forwards that comes by, I request people to check the facts before just sending it to as many people.
