The Art of Writing

It has been a while since I penned down something for the simple fact that my wedding is round the corner. While my D-day is fast approaching and am floating around with an excel of 'Things to do' there was this something that kept coming up frequently.

My Profession requires me to interact with a lot of people in the organization. What really caught my attention was the chat messages. Here is one to go...

X: Hi Ma'am

Me: Hi..yes please

X: Do you have a SPOC in xxx team????

I immediately think 'Holy cow! Some escalation'. So I earnestly ping back and ask for the details

Me: Have you been trying to call the team and a No response situation
X: No
Me: Have you tried calling the team before
X: No
Me: Ok, so what's the issue?
X: I wanted to talk to the team since I have some doubts to clarify.
Me: Eh, then why did you send me so many question marks..
X: Eh..What's wrong in that???

There you go again! I am perfectly fine with !!! to show all your enthusiasm in the world, but ???

Interestingly, when I ask these well educated people if they know what it means, the only answer I always get is 'It is cool'!

I can only blame the social networking which made them forget the basic grammar lessons back from school. I am not an expert writer but at least I deliberately do not make mistakes which doesn't convey the right messages. So here is to everyone, who does or does not like this, When you have a question- use one question mark which more than conveys the message. If it is more than one question mark, it generally conveys that you are being rude/ frustrated!! Imagine the anxiety you possibly cause to the other party which was the case in my situation. I have passed on this simple reminder from School grammar lesson to those who have interacted with me and the reaction has always been Denial!

While the world of technology advancement has made us all 'Stenographer's of our own style, some basic grammar does no harm! May the lmao, lol, ty continue (which I rely on Urban Dictionary sometime) but not distort the intention

Vive!
